Meet Intern Ashley Wooten! Ashley has been with us a couple of weeks and has been a huge help already. We’re glad she’s going to be around a little while longer! Since she’ll be going on home visits and installs with some of our designers over the next few weeks, we wanted you to get to know her a little bit! Keep reading for a little Q&A with Ashley!
1. Tell us about yourself! Where you’re from, where you went to school, where you live…
I grew up in Brandon and graduated from Mississippi State University in May with my Interior Design degree. I miss the Cotton District and my Tavern family already! I am currently living with my grandmother in Flowood during the week, helping my family out with her healthcare needs.
2. What are some of your favorite hobbies?
In my down time I love traveling, practicing yoga or being outdoors; camping, hiking or exercising with my dog-child, Bentley.
3. When did you first realize that you were interested in Interior Design?
I paint a lot in my spare time so I began creating concepts and color schemes on my own at a young age. For most holidays I would hope for new bedding, furniture or accessories for my childhood room! To say that my eye for design has grown into something much more tasteful since the 90’s would be a huge understatement. My Mom let me have the freedom of designing my room at our first house with lime green walls and denim accessories…
4. What has been your favorite aspect of interning at SummerHouse?
I love how upbeat the staff is here! Everyone is really fun to be around, yet balances an efficient work ethic. The designers and assistants are always open to walk me through what they are working on and let me tag along for client presentations or even home visits!
5. What’s been your favorite project you’ve helped with so far in your short time at SummerHouse?
I am working with Elizabeth and Patty now on a client’s home design following a renovation. This particular client is interesting to me because much like myself, she has a strong passion for art that she has collected through travels that is playing a big role in the design. This project is going to be really beautiful! Elizabeth is doing a fantastic job in designing her home with a mix of rustic materials and handsome details, with her signature pop of white through hide accents.
6. What’s the most recent vacation you took?
Right before I began my internship here my family and close friends took another vacay to Watercolor, FL! It was here that I began to be very interested in high-end residential design. From Florida, I flew to right outside of Chicago for a weekend music festival with friends. It was my ultimate summer vacation before I began my design career!
7. What’s something weird/cool about you that none of us know?
I do not watch TV. Growing up, my parents never put a TV in my room and encouraged me to spend my free time being artistic or reading. I actually got my very first flat screen for my room/home just last year and I rarely turn it on.
8. Any confessions you’d like to share?
I might be slightly addicted to my Iphone. Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram, Vine…It’s amazing how many different ways you can express your creativity these days to instantly share with your friends! Also, I am pretty clumsy so I shatter my screen every few months because it’s constantly in my hand.
