Crazy For Kelly

Kelly Wearstler (whose style isn’t always in our comfort zone, but is always awe-inspiring) recently came out with some new fabrics and wallcoverings for Groundworks that we can’t get enough of! The new wallpaper patterns are so outside-the-box, and so Kelly. When Lisa saw one of them, she decided right then and there that she needed to re-paper her foyer! Here are the wallcoverings we fell most in love with…

Not only is that last pattern wallpaper, but it’s also fabric! YES! Here it is (along with some other new intros and old favorites) from this same collection:

ADAC Recap!

After a whirlwind visit to ADAC (Atlanta Decorative Arts Center) about a week or so ago, Lisa, Todd, and Elizabeth came back with beautiful fabric and furniture on the brain (as well as a TON of fabric samples to add to our fabric library!)

They had a blast and were excited to report some of their favorite finds back to us! Here are a few of the highlights…

(1) The Jerry Pair showroom was gorgeous…

(2) …As you can see!

(3) And Ainsworth Noah had a great Rose Tarlow chair that Todd totally fell in love with!

(4) The new Mary McDonald collection for Schumacher was rather eye-catching. Here’s a peek at one of our designers’ faves..

(5) After a big day of ADAC’ing, the SummerHousers met Ainsworth and Noah themselves at a great little casual restaurant for some appetizers and drinks! Our fantastic rep, Evelyn, joined as well! Spending time with these two fun guys was definitely one of the highlights of the trip!

SummerHouse staff and Ainsworth & Noah!

Thanks to everyone at all of the ADAC showrooms who was so kind to assist our staff on their visit! They truly had a great trip, and we’re all loving the great samples they brought home!

Meet Our Fabric Librarian, Jaclyn!

JACLYN PETTYMeet one of the newest members of our ever-growing SummerHouse family!

Jaclyn Petty, our outstanding part-time Fabric Librarian, answers a few questions for us so we can get to know her just a little better!

Q: In a nutshell, tell us what you do up here at SummerHouse!
A: I am the Fabric Organizer/Librarian! In a nutshell, I maintain the fabric library by organizing samples and reference materials, adding new information as needed, and deleting dated info.

Q: Where did you to go college and what did you major in?
A: I graduated from Mississippi State University in May 2012 with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts with an emphasis in Graphic Design.

Q: What’s your favorite spring trend this year?
A: All the new spring colors and patterns. Bright florals and polka dots are so adorable.

Q: What’s your favorite movie these days?
A: Oooh My favorite recent movie would have to be Life of Pi. It was such a great book and the movie was just unforgettable. The 227 days at sea are a test of physique, mental adaptation and faith, and Suraj Sharma makes Pi’s spiritual journey as convincing as his nautical one. So beautiful!

A sample of Jac's mad organization skills!
A sample of Jac’s mad organization skills!

Q: If you could choose one artist to listen to 24/7, who would it be?
A: Beyonce, of course

Q: What’s your favorite way to enjoy caffeine?
A: Coffee! Isn’t that the only way?

Q: Got any fun trips planned for the summer?
A: I actually recently bought Beyonce tickets for her concert in July. You have no idea how excited I am!

Q: What else do we need to know about you?! Spill it!!
A: I love painting in my spare time. Abstract landscapes is one of my favorite things to paint!

Thank you, Jaclyn, for coming in every day and tackling the sometimes-daunting (actually, often-daunting!) resource library with a smile on your face! We love having you up here!

Kelly Wearstler for Groundworks

Most of us up here are pretty big fans of (okay, some of us are completely obsessed with!) the one and only Kelly Wearstler. Her style is absolutely magnetic, both in fashion and interiors!

We have been so in love with the newest collection she did with Groundwords for Lee Jofa that we had to share some highlights!

SummerHouse loves Kelly Wearstler

A little about this collection:

“In her second collaboration with Groundworks, Kelly Wearstler has created a vibrant and inspiring fabric collection that combines her love for natural materials, graphic patterns and unique colors. The collection features organic and textural designs that are quietly elegant, as well as the bold prints that have become a Kelly Wearstler signature.”

We love her go-to color palette. It’s always really different, but it just plain works. That’s why she’s so good!

Texture + Tone

Lisa and Elish have a couple of room designs underway that are beautiful displays of texture and tone! All of the creams in one of the rooms come together beautifully to create a soft and very interesting palette. All of the different blues in the other room blend beautifully because of the different textures and patterns.

Stay tuned for pictures of these rooms later on as they start coming together!

Just Because We’re In Mississippi…

Have you ever wanted your house to have that SummerHouse look but were afraid it could never happen because you don’t live around here?

{( fear no longer )}

Just because our shop is located in Ridgeland, Mississippi does not mean we can’t help you make your home beautiful wherever you are! Our designers love a quick business trip just as much as they love design!

Elizabeth, one of our designers, actually just got back from a trip to Texas to present this beautiful project!

Thanks to the communication age in which we live, it was not a big deal for Elizabeth to get all the information she needed about the space, work up some ideas, then fly out to make her presentation!

SummerHouse | Ridgeland, MS SummerHouse | Ridgeland, MS

If you’re interested in having a SummerHouse designer work with you, even if you aren’t from around here, then be sure to give us a call! We all love the chance to spread our wings from time to time!

{ happy valentine’s day }

Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you! We love this holiday because someone usually brings cupcakes and/or candy, someone usually brings elementary school Valentine’s cards (which take us back to the good ol’ days), and someone usually gets flowers from a sweet boyfriend/husband (which we all can enjoy!)

Another reason we love this holiday is because we’re reminded of just how beautiful and versatile pinks, corals, and reds can be! We picked a few Schumacher fabrics (from many collections) showcasing just why we love the colors of love.

{ happy valentine’s day }-2 { happy valentine’s day }-3 { happy valentine’s day }-6 { happy valentine’s day }-1 { happy valentine’s day }-5 { happy valentine’s day }-4 { happy valentine’s day }-7 { happy valentine’s day }-8

And do something nice for someone!
That’s a sure-fire way to make your Valentine’s Day the best possible! Oh, and when you get blue, just re-visit this post for a little happiness and warmth from these pretty fabrics! 🙂

New from the Schu…

With Spring just around the corner, (well, sort of…) thoughts of going to the beach, taking trips, and spending time outdoors don’t seem quite so intangible! The nice weather in our area this weekend really gave some of us a case of Spring Fever!

To go along perfectly with the upcoming season change is this new collection of fabrics from Schumacher. The collection is named Cote d’Azur, which just sounds beautiful doesn’t it?! These indoor/outdoor fabrics were inspired by the sand and surf of the French Riviera. They definitely make us wish for a big yacht, some big sunglasses, and a nice Mediterranean cocktail… Ahhh….

Let’s take a look at a few of the collection’s highlights…

San Remo Fret, Jet
Monaco Velvet, Java
Antibes Chevron, Jet
Tortola Marine
Cap Ferrat Weave, Navy
Cannes Awning Stripe, Java

Remember, indoor/outdoor fabrics can easily be cleaned with soap and water! These fabrics would be perfect for families with lots of children (or messy adults!), beach homes, outdoor upholstered furniture… The possibilities are almost endless!

We could really get used to relaxing in a space like this...

View the entire Schumacher collection here. And if you have questions or would like a sample of anything you see, give us a call! We’ll get you fixed up!

Little Things Studio: Something to Keep an Eye on!

So recently we met a really cool girl by the name of Kate Thomas. She has her own little graphics studio called Little Things Studio. She makes fabulous prints, stationery, calendars, etc. Mostly paper stuff. But we are SO EXCITED to find out that she will soon be selling FABRIC! By “soon,” we mean it is in the works but could still be a while… She’s keeping us posted! Her designs are beautiful and translate flawlessly into fabric patterns, so we’re pretty excited about hopefully soon having access to this stuff! Here are a few fabric samples. Don’t they bring a smile to your face?!

Here are a few of her other designs that are worth peeking at, too. More can be seen at Kate’s etsy shop, and on her blog! She’s one hilarious chick with a great sense of humor and an even greater sense of design! 🙂

SummerHouse in the Sunshine State

Elizabeth Gullett

SummerHouse designer Elizabeth Gullett recently finished a project in Santa Rosa, Florida that we are all in love with! See what Elizabeth has to say about the challenges that the project presented and how she overcame those challenges. And check out these gorgeous photos!

I must say that this Santa Rosa Beach, Florida carriage house has been one of my most favorite projects yet. Not only was the location divine -with its ocean views, private pool and private beach access- but the client and I shared a unity of vision that made this project go incredibly smoothly! Right off the bat, Kay and I knew we were going to work great together. She’s as enthusiastic as I am, and there was so much to be excited about!

The Challenge: 1) To create a relaxing environment that was livable, fresh, and interesting, while easily accommodating guests ranging from grand-kids to business associates. One of the main issues we had to consider was the fact that this would be where Kay’s kids and grandkids stayed when they came to visit. So everything needed to be super durable, easy to clean, and all around super family friendly, with as much sleeping room as possible. 2) The carriage house needed to have a “chic” element about it as well, because (very fortunate) business associates and clients would be staying here occasionally. 3) The furnishings should direct attention outside toward the amazing views, and not steal it from them. 4) The carriage house should also flow smoothly from the main house (they are attached), and yet stand on it’s own two design feet.

The Solution: 1) This was accomplished with heavy duty fabric on a sleeper sofa, cleanable slipcovers on the chairs, and a darker wool rug downstairs. Wool is naturally stain-resistant, and the darker color makes it even more kid-friendly. The bar stools are made of a heavy-duty grey washed rattan – just wipe them clean!  2) A variety of carefully mixed finishes and washes brings an eclectic, yet sophisticated flair to the different case pieces in the house. The accessories-from classic, thick coffee table books to white coral on acrylic bases-add another layer of chic. The furniture is more rustic, while the accessories are more classic and elegant. 3) Furniture was arranged with each spectacular view as the focal point; every seat gets a good sightline to the ocean! 4)  I chose a palette of crisp white, soothing greens and fresh blues- a classic beach palette, done in a slightly unexpected, dressier way. The blue was pulled from the main house, bringing a sense of cohesiveness.

“Not only was the location divine -with its ocean views, private pool and private beach access- but the client and I shared a unity of vision that made this project go incredibly smoothly!”

“A variety of carefully mixed finishes and washes brings an eclectic, yet sophisticated flair to the different case pieces in the house.”

The words we both kept using to describe the feeling we wanted for the house was “Non-beachy, beachy.” Sounds silly, but it fit. Clean, relaxed, sophisticated, and fresh, but with no wicker or “coastal” furniture to be found anywhere…a “different” type of beach house. Kay pretty much gave me free rein in the fabric and furnishing selection, and after the initial presentation didn’t change a thing. It was so affirming that she not only loved, but trusted, the entire vision!

Like I said, one of my most favorite projects yet. 🙂
