“The Coolest Media Room on Earth!”

Have you seen the most recent issue of Delta Magazine?! It just hit stands last week and we are loving it! We particularly love the post entitled “The Coolest Media Room on Earth! OMG!” One of our favorite families, the Blanchard family, showed off their amazing media and exercise room.  It truly is one of the coolest we’ve ever seen! Lisa did a great job of making the space modern, yet liveable, don’t you think?

What is your favorite part about this room? We love the color, the huge Dr. Pitt sectional (by Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams), the Kelly Wearstler inspired bookshelf, all the Adler, the big lacquer mirrors in the exercise area…. Really, there is nothing about this room that we don’t love!

Be sure to pick up your copy of the May/June issue of Delta at pretty much any bookstore around here! It’s a great issue!

Behind the Scenes: Portico Photo Shoot

This morning we had so much fun with the ladies who are compiling the story for the next issue of Portico Jackson Magazine! Amanda Wells, a local journalist, and Daphne Nabors, local photographer, met us at our customers’ home to chat about design!  Portico contacted us a couple of weeks ago requesting a green room to run in their March issue, so this is the first one that popped into mind!  Then we started thinking…. “Do they mean eco-friendly green or the color green?”  They did indeed mean the COLOR green, so we knew we had the perfect project for them to showcase!  As Daphe worked her magic behind the lens, Amanda talked to Lisa and the homeowner about the purpose and concept behind the beautiful design.  Here is a peek behind the scenes of the photo shoot.  We can’t wait to see the finished project! 🙂

The art above the Clifton sectional is by Trevor, one of the many talented artists represented at View Gallery.  His color palette and style are always so much fun!

All of the fabrics you see here (minus the Adler throw) can be easily spot cleaned with soap and water.  How perfect for a kids’ hangout room, right?!

Such a fun color scheme! This makes us want to be a kid all over again…

The orange Mottega lamp adds so much to the space.

Fun Jonathan Adler accessories and books accent the whole room!

This entertainment console (and the bookshelf, not pictured) are from a very cool and modern company called Blu Dot.  They make some great looking furniture!

New Trina Turk Outdoor Fabrics!

We got an email this morning from Schumacher introducing the new Trina Turk outdoor fabrics and they are fabulous! We have had so much fun using the fabrics from her last introduction, so we are looking for ways to incorporate these into current projects!  Even though these are labeled as outdoor fabrics, we love using them inside, particularly for kids areas.  They clean with almost no effort at all!  You can view all colorways of these patterns here.

Lines We Love: Serena and Lily

Serena and Lily, a line that started out solely with bedding, began in 2003 with creative minds Serena Dugan and Lily Kanter.  Serena had a background in fabrics, Lily a background in baby-focused retail.  After they collaborated and launched their initial baby/child bedding line, they saw such great success that they decided to branch into “grown up” bedding.  The next step was furniture and accessories!  They continually evolve and add, keeping things interesting for those of us who follow their every move.  Here are just a few of the things these ladies have created.  Hopefully it will be easy for you to see why we love Serena and Lily so!

Speechless

Have any of you heard of Rue Magazine?  We had not until yesterday but… WOW… We were left completely speechless! Rue Magazine (www.ruemag.com) is an online magazine, very similar to our beloved LonnyMag (www.lonnymag.com).  It is paperless so it can be thumbed through with the click of a mouse, without having to take up any room on your counter! Rue is a little different from Lonny in that it seems to have more dark European insiriation mixed in.  It is all very beautiful and outside the box!  Here are a few of their many beautiful pages. What do you think?

Rue is only in its second issue, so we eagerly anticipate their coming issues!

Meet Brittany Ivy

24
NOVEMBER
2010

Brittany IvyMeet the newest member of the SummerHouse family:  BrittanyIvy!  Brittany is our new Jr. Designer/Design Assistant and is fitting right in!  Not only is Brittany funny and extremely talented, but she is also very organized! On her first day, we overheard her saying “I can’t stand for anything to be messy.”  Such sweet, sweet music to all of the designers’ ears… 🙂

We took a moment to ask Brit Brit a few questions.  What a sweetheart she is!

How are you liking SummerHouse so far? What’s your favorite thing about working here?

I love working at SummerHouse! A few of my favorite things about working here are, 1) the people I work with! All the designers and employees are so friendly and inviting, and I think that makes all the difference in a workplace! 2) The thing I love about coming to work everyday is that I never know what task I will be faced with. Everyday is different and unique its own way.

What is your personal design style?

I would have to say that my personal design style would be more on the eclectic side – mixing the old with the new!  I love shopping at antique and second-hand stores and finding unique original pieces and mixing it with new items and using what I already have!

What is your favorite place to find design inspiration? Magazines, blogs…?

I find inspiration from magazines such as Interior Design Magazine and ELLE Decor. Another inspiring place to find design are from the designers here at SummerHouse! Seeing all the projects that are going on around me are interesting and motivating! Each designer has their own personal style and its a great way to get to know each designer!

What is your favorite movie and why?

I would have to say of all the movies out there that Fried Green Tomatoes would have to be my favorite! Overall, the story is uplifting! I love that Evelyn gains independence by visiting Ninny and hearing the powerful story she has to tell. A few other movies I’ve enjoyed over the years are Forrest Gump, Little Miss Sunshine, and all of the Shrek movies!

What did you do over the weekend?!

Over the weekend you would have found me in Starkville, MS at the Mississippi State vs. Arkansas football game! Although the bulldogs couldn’t pull out a win for us in double overtime, I still had a great time visiting with friends!

What is something funny/unique about you?

I’m 25 years old and still sleep with my teddy bear and blankets.

Designer Spotlight: Meagan Burks

Meagan Burks

Meagan Burks, one of our amazing designers, is faced with design challenges on a regular basis (as most designers are!)  Where does she turn when she needs inspiration? Meagan has several designers, including Kelly Wearstler, Suzanne Kasler and Bobby McAlpine, whose styles really inspire her.  All of them have books that help refresh Meagan’s sometimes depleated creativity.

“First and foremost, Bobby McAlpine is an architect; and his new book, “The Home Within Us” is my favorite new architectural design book.  I have been an admirer of his architecture and interiors long before I knew he designed furniture.  The upholstery collection he designed for Lee Industries, one of our manufacturers, perfectly showcases his use of gracefully sculptural lines that are as timeless as they are unique.”

In contrast to Bobby McAlpine, Meagan also finds inspiration from Kelly Wearstler.  Kelly Wearstler’s HUE is a reminder of how to properly incorporate daring color into interior design.  As The New Yorker so eloquently put it, Kelly is “the presiding grande dame of West Coast interior design.”

“You can always tell it’s a Kelly Wearstler room.  Her mix of pattern, color, and texture is so bold, but it always works.  What shows through in her interiors shows through in her textile designs.”

Ombre Maze in Saffron by Kelly Wearstler

Somewhere between the earthy, natural Bobby McAlpine and the bright, bold Kelly Wearstler falls Suzanne Kasler.  Her versatility is endless.

“Suzanne Kasler is known for her classically inspired rooms, soothing palettes, and casual elegance.  Her lighting fixtures bring Southern charm, European sensibility, and a respect for architectural details to her interiors.  Her work is polished and refined, yet casual, relaxed and effortless”

Suzanne describes her own style as “a fresh mix of continental flavor and classic style, emphasizing light, scale, and architectural elements of space, creating collected interiors.”   Her book, Inspired Interiors, beautifully showcases the mix that Suzanne is known for.

Our New Look!

Hey everyone! Sorry this blog post is a couple of days later than we had hoped! After being closed for 5 days in a row, we have all been playing catch up! Now that the dust is finally settling (literally…), we have a few minutes to pay attention to the blog!

We are SO pleased with the changes that took place in our showroom over our break! The ENTIRE floor got re-merchandised and it looks amazing.  We brought out a lot of new furniture, lamps and accessories (and will have even more new stuff by Tuesday at THE BIG REVEAL!) and touched up all of our walls.  Our accent walls have also been re-done by Virginia Weathersby and her talented helpers!

Greys are so gorgeous all mixed together!

The Cleo bed is looking prettier than ever!

Our two favorite changes are (1) our back wall behind the front desk and (2) the built in’s to house our pillows and bedding.  Here are a few pictures of the built in’s and of the new wall getting accessorized!

The new front desk turned out SO well! In addition to the wall being new, the skirt around the front is new, too!

Look at all those pretty pillows in our new built in shelves!
Ta da!! It just sparkles 🙂

We will see everybody at THE BIG REVEAL on Tuesday! Can’t wait!

Face Lift: Day 2

It has been a BUSY day! We have gotten so much great stuff done, upstairs and down! (For those of you who may not be familiar with our setup, we have our showroom downstairs and our offices upstairs.  For the BIG REVEAL, we are going to have both downstairs AND upstairs on display! Guests have never been able to go upstairs at a party before, so we are working hard to get things presentable up here!)

Hot Mess upstairs...

Elizabeth and Laurel refolding fabrics like there is no tomorrow!

After lots of TLC, the fabric library is looking much better!
Katie and KC weeding out lots of old books. We found one from 2004... WOW!

Take a peek at what all has gone on downstairs!  While we were rearranging furniture, we ended up needing to put some outside our back door.  As luck would have it, the weather decided to change from very pretty to very nasty.  So we had about 3 minutes to move LOTS of stuff inside… Thankfully, the only stuff that did get rained on was wrapped in plastic so there was no harm done.  But how bout that for a quick jolt!?

Hot Mess downstairs...

Hot Mess Part 2

Part of our new built in shelving unit! We are so excited about it!

The new built-ins!! Not painted yet, but looking beautiful nonetheless

The new wall stencil behind the front desk is looking AWESOME

The Modern Room is starting to take shape. SO exciting!

There is a chance that this’ll be the last update until Tuesday… We will try to squeeze in one more but no promises!! Remeber to mark your calendar for Tuesday, September 14! THE BIG REVEAL is going to be so much fun! Food and wine by Viking Cooking School, and lots of great donations for our drawing.  Thanks to Calistoga Wine and Spirits, The Everyday Gourmet, View Gallery, Fusion Coffeehouse, Kosmos and Faces for all your support! 🙂
