This And That

We’ve had a lot of excitement going on around here that we wanted to get you caught up on!

… Our Mark Edge Trunk Show was so much fun! We were in love with every single piece he brought, so we ended up keeping a good bit after the show was over! SO, if you weren’t able to make it by, be sure to stop in the Ridgeland shop soon and see what we still have available!

… We installed the Corporate Sponsor Lounge for Mistletoe Marketplace last week and it looks really good!! When you’re working with pipe and drape and old floors, it’s a bit of a challenge to get things looking chic, but Lisa worked some magic and it looks fab!! Corporate Sponsors– we hope you enjoy! 🙂

Why Hire A SummerHouse Designer?

Why should you hire a SummerHouse designer? Our owner and lead designer Lisa Palmer answers that question and dispels a few myths that exist about working with us! Keep reading to see what LP has to say on the matter!

“The thought of hiring a designer can be a bit stressful. Will my designer get my style and produce rooms that I will truly love? Will she send me a huge bill? How do I know she will do what she says? What if she doesn’t communicate well? There are so many concerns, so why hire a SummerHouse designer?

Well, to be honest… I think our designers are the best in the area. Truly! A picture tells a thousand words, so the fact that you can see our work on our website’s interior design section and our social media sites like Instagram and Facebook will seriously help in the decision making. Also the fact that we have two stores in Mississippi showcasing a beautiful mix of furniture, accessories, art and bedding, shows our clients who we are. They can see, touch, and experience the quality of the pieces that we stock and can special order. We also work as a team in most cases, so our clients get not only their preferred SH designer, but most often, we will ask opinions from our team members for confirmation that what we are presenting are the best pieces for the spaces. Our many years of experience in the market, our continuing education with our furniture and accessory manufacturers, the fact that our designers are degreed Interior Designers, and our high level of personal client service are all big factors in why hiring a SH designer is a win-win.

Why Hire A SummerHouse Interior Designer? // www.alwayssummerblog.com

As far as the cost of hiring a SH designer, we are great at working within budgets when they are given to us! We carry some high-end lines, yes, but we also have several outstanding “meat and potatoes” manufacturers who make beautiful, quality products at more affordable prices. We do not charge for our time when you are purchasing from us, so you will not receive a bill for our time in addition to the quote you are presented. You know what you are getting and what it will cost before you ever get out your checkbook.

Since we are local, we have a reputation to maintain, if I’m being quite honest! Our clients are not just customers. They are our friends. The people we run into at Kroger. The people our kids are in school with. They’re not just a number to us like they may be to a big box store. It is my goal for every single person who shops with SummerHouse to leave having had a great experience. People talk. So I don’t want to leave any room for them to be able to talk poorly about my baby! (SummerHouse, that is!)

Why Hire A SummerHouse Interior Designer? // www.alwayssummerblog.com

Lastly, to piggyback on that last point, because we are a local business with a great client base, we have grown to a point where our manufacturers care about keeping us really happy! Our business office and warehouse staff are great at dealing with claims, damages, and other not-so-fun areas of the business so our clients don’t have to. When you order from SummerHouse and something comes in dented or broken, we take care of that for you. When you order from a larger retailer, in most cases, YOU will be the one making the claim on the damaged piece, which is no fun for you. We want your furniture buying process to be enjoyable!

We love what we do, we love getting to make a difference in the lives of our clients, and we value your trust. That is why you should hire a SummerHouse designer!”

Happy Chic Halloween

Happy Chic Halloween // an inspired dinner party setting! // www.alwayssummerblog.com

We had a little fun in our Ridgeland showroom recently playing with a Hallow-inspired tablescape, and now we’re all ready to have our own Halloween dinner parties with a fanciful flair!

Design Assistant Krystle Short pulled some cool accessories (some of which are slightly creepy… bwahahaha) and had the brilliant idea of using one of our black cowhide rugs as a tablecloth of sorts. It all turned out beautifully! Very inspiring, very in keeping with the time of the year, yet very classy! (Because let’s be honest… not all Halloween decorations are all that classy… You know what we mean!)

The Interest In The Unpredictable

The Interest in the Unpredictable: A unique study that is equally as gorgeous as it is surprising // By SummerHouse Interior Designer Elish Moon

When we first saw pictures of a study that SummerHouse | Ridgeland Designer Elish Moon recently completed, we were blown away! Not only was it a stunning space, but it was so unexpected! It’s not every day that we see a deep green velvet sofa, deep green walls, and pops of warm spice. We were enamored, so we got Elish to share a little bit more about this lovely design! (Disclaimer: These are cell phone pictures. We hope to get some better ones done very soon! But the space is still stunning!)

The Interest in the Unpredictable: A unique study that is equally as gorgeous as it is surprising // By SummerHouse Interior Designer Elish MoonThe Interest in the Unpredictable: A unique study that is equally as gorgeous as it is surprising // By SummerHouse Interior Designer Elish MoonElish says, “The clients whose project this is are longtime clients that I have a great history with and have enjoyed a friendship with as well. I worked with them first as an assistant and then as a designer. While this couple had a beautiful home we had done by the water, they moved to a slightly smaller, easier to manage residence in their retirement. Although their previous home was absolutely beautiful, this new home was cleaner, brighter, and more modern. They wanted the design direction to reflect that. While the entire home is light, bright and airy, the husband wanted one space to still capture the warmer, cozy, richer feel of their previous home… and occasionally escape from boisterous grandchildren! This second level bonus room-turned-study was our one room to depart our white color scheme and go for something rich and bold. Together we chose the beautiful Benjamin Moore Narragansett Green for the walls. His love of books is evident in this space and they became a focal point as he crafted bookshelves to fit his needs by hand. The very narrow footprint was a challenge but really ended up working in our favor. We were able to line the walls with shallow shelving and order an apartment length sofa in a perfectly coordinated velvet. Although this room was somewhat of an afterthought, it became one of our favorite rooms as elements seamlessly fell into place. I’m hoping they can spend many hours in this room enjoying their well deserved retirement!”

Naturally Chic

You may remember several months back when we went on a social media posting frenzy about the beautiful Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles show house that Lisa got to be a part of! Lisa designed the upstairs lounge in this magnificent home:

“Architect Yong Pak of Pak Heydt & Associates and builder Michael Ladisic of Ladisic Fine Homes transformed a James Means-designed home in the heart of Buckhead in its Kingswood neighborhood. The six-bedroom home is sited on 2 acres of land on top of a hill in quiet cul de sac, overlooking a preserve and recreational fields (read: no rear neighbors!). Charleston-inspired cobblestone and brick driveway, heart of pine floors, slate roof.”

Now that the issue with the showhouse feature is out, we can share the room with you! Here’s the spread:

30A Living

30A Living

We have a new book in the shop that leaves us absolutely smitten. This new book, called 30A Living, is compiled by talented duo Lynn Nesmith and Jean Allsopp, and highlights the beauty and charm of the magnificent strip of Florida beach towns known as 30A. The homes in these beach towns are as equally magnificent as the beaches on which they are nestled.

30A Living available at summerhousestyle.com

We got to chat with both Lynn and Jean about how this book came together and learned so much! Writer Lynn and photographer Jean found each other when they worked together at Southern Living earlier in their careers and have continued a friendship from there. We are so glad they remained friends and started putting books together because their books are GORGEOUS! 30A Living is a follow up to 30A Style, which was a book that was so popular, it got reprinted three times and sold out every time.

Because of the success of 30A Style, 30A Living just seemed like a natural follow-up. Same beach towns, same staff, but larger format, different homes, and more pages! “We wanted all of the various 30A communities to be represented, as well as a variety of styles. Contemporary, cottagey, traditional. I like the mix that ended up in the book,” says Lynn.

“The biggest challenge with this book was choosing which photos to include to have the best mix of styles,” Jean adds.

When we asked Lynn what she hoped readers of this book walked away with, she told us, “I hope readers get design ideas and get inspired. Even if you can’t build homes like the ones we show, hopefully you can still at least get great ideas. I love 30A, and the people who vacation here love it too. It was a joy to get to highlight all of the different communities and how different they all are.”

It is a joy to us to flip through each page of this book, one by one, devouring the stunning detail of each of the featured homes. Jean and Lynn, y’all did a BEAUTIFUL job! Every word and every photo are top notch!

White on White

We absolutely love all white spaces. White on white is crisp, neutral, both modern AND traditional, and simply soothing. All white spaces start with all white walls and trim, so we hit up our design staff for their favorite white + white combos. We love what they’ve picked!

The SummerHouse designers weigh in on their favorite white on white paint color combinations! // www.alwayssummerblog.com

Design Assistant Anabel Webb prefers the Benjamin Moore combo Decorator’s White with Simply White on the trim. Design Assistant Camille Holland Parker likes White Dove on White Dove! Design Assistant Krystle Short’s pick is Ben Moore’s Navajo White on the walls with Farrow & Ball James White on the trim. Designer Katy Sanders likes all Ben Moore Ivory White on both walls AND trim! Lindsey Townsend loves Ben Moore Moonlight White with Simply White on the trim. Katy Carone’s pick is Ben Moore Glacier White on the wall with White Dove on the trim.

Designer Elish Phares Moon likes the monochromatic Ben Moore Moonlight White on both walls and trim and tells us why it’s so beautiful!

“One color? For the walls AND trim? It may sound too good to be true, but in this case, less is more. Although it’s a little too much restraint for some personalities, an all white house is incredibly inviting. It took me a while to get on board. I thought “all white? and stifle my creativity? Leave a huge canvas… blank? NEVER! ” I first tried this combo with a client in Oxford… when I finally saw the finished product it was love at first sight. I loved it so much I did it in my own home- and I fall a little more in love with it each day.”

Great picks, designers. Do YOU have a favorite white on white combo? Tell us in the comments below!

Designer of the Week Katie Carone

SummerHouse Designer of the Week Katie CaroneOur current designer of the week is our newest designer Katie Carone! She joined our team in April and has been so much fun to have around! We love seeing this mama’s belly grow as she prepares to welcome her first child at the end of this year! We could not be more excited for her!!

We did a fun little Q&A with here so here it is!

What is your favorite design trend right now and why?

I am actually ALL about florals right now!! You’re seeing it in fashion but also in textiles and home decor and I don’t think it’s going to be going away any time soon. I’ve never been a super girly girl, I usually lean more towards edgier looks in fashion as well as decor, but with the florals right now, my softer side is definitely coming out. Not that all florals have to be girly or fussy. I’m actually seeing a good bit of darker versions with jewel tones, blacks and golds which is perfect for Fall, as well as muted more abstract takes on traditional floral prints. I’m loving floral so much, I actually did the accent wall in our daughter’s nursery a beautiful watercolor-esque muted large print floral wallpaper in soft pinks, bieges and grays and my husband and I both absolutely adore it!!

What’s your favorite room in a home to design? Why?

I love designing Master Bedrooms. In our home, its personally my favorite room. I feel like it should be a comfortable, calming space to retreat, relax and enjoy each other’s company after a long day. Whether curled up in a cozy bed with great linens or lounging in a beautiful chair to read a book, I always try to pick soothing color palettes and comfortable fabrics and textures to also make this room a favorite space for my clients.

Tell us about your favorite project to date and what you love about that particular project!

My favorite project to date is definitely our daughter Ava Ryn’s nursery. My husband and I are pregnant with our first child due in December so this has been a complete labor of love, not to mention super fun!! I’ve always loved designing children’s rooms and nurseries, but this one is of course very near and dear to my heart. It’s the first room in our home I have completely designed, as every other room in our home is his, mine and ours. This room is all baby girl and I love it!! I finally feel the satisfaction that I give my clients from their perspective. Although I’m always thrilled when projects are complete, sometimes I feel like I’m as happy as they are with our end result… But now I truly know the joy and excitement I give my clients and its an awesome feeling!

SummerHouse Designer of the Week Katie Carone

Is there a publication, book, blog, website, magazine that has just really inspired you lately? Tell us about it!

I get a lot of inspiration from Atlanta Homes magazine. It’s a great magazine that showcases beautiful home interiors, gardens, and remodels and is extremely current and up to date with the latest trends in interiors.

Designer Katherine Shelton is currently working on pulling together a children’s den and we are so excited to see how this project turns out! The presentation was fun, playful, and sophisticated all at the same time! We love her selections and can’t wait to see the end product!

Take a look at this happy gender-neutral combination of fabrics and colors. Love!

Head on over and take a look around! And remember that all of these projects were done by SummerHouse designers so if you see something you like, we can help make your home equally as beautiful! Just give us a shout (or email a designer directly from the new site! That’s another cool feature we added!) and we can chat about your design needs!

Props to Brian at Zest Creative for taking our vision and making it a real thing! And for being patient with us design folks who tend to change trains of thought somewhat often… 🙂 We love the end result!

Have fun browsing! Hope you enjoy!
