SummerHouse was recently featured in Reunion Living Magazine and it was such a lovely spotlight! They did a Q&A with our immensely talented Lisa Palmer and included lots of fabulous photos of past SummerHouse projects. If you live in Reunion, you probably got a copy of this pretty little publication. If you don’t, feel free to stop by the Ridgeland shop and take a peek at the copies we have up there!
Many thanks again to Reunion Living for doing this great feature! We hope you enjoy it!
Thank you for stopping by Always Summer! XO!
Wallpaper. We love it! It’s a fun way to add interest to a space, large or small. A full room, an accent wall, on the back of a bookshelf… We love both subtle and bold. It’s just so versatile! We’ve used our share of wallpapers, wall coverings, and hand painted wall stencils to add interest to some of our favorite spaces to get them juuuuust right. Here’ proof that wallpaper (and wall stenciling) is EVERYTHING!
Can you tell which two photos are hand painted wall stencils? If you guessed the last two photos, you are correct! Lisa designed each of the rooms in which the hand painted stencils were used, and they could not have turned out prettier! Those rooms (well, all of them actually!) are proof that hiring a designer is SO worth it. Trained interior designers understand scale and color and can get your walls exactly how they should be.
If you’re interested in updating your walls, give us a call! We’d love to help you fulfill your vision. Thank you so much for stopping by today! It means so much to us.
We’ve added a brand new project to our project site! You may remember reading last week about Katherine’s outdoor project published in Social South. We now have those photos up as a project! Here are a few of the ones you’ll find in the gallery…
See the full gallery HERE. And be sure to call a SummerHouse designer to get your own outdoor space looking this good! 🙂 Kudos to Katherine for doing a killer job!
// These photos were taken by James Patterson and first appeared in Social South Magazine //
Designer Katherine Shelton recently had her work featured in Social South magazine! The whole issue is beautiful, but we particularly love this outdoor space! We will soon add this space to our project site, so keep an eye out for that! Until then, have a look at these pretty pages!
You can read the story here, or stop by the Ridgeland showroom and pick up a hard copy for yourself!
Great work, Katherine! We love every detail 🙂
Happy 4th of July weekend! Both of our shops will be closed on Monday and Tuesday in observation of the holiday so we can all spend some QT with our friends and families.
One thing we’ve enjoyed doing in years past on this little blog is rounding up some of our favorite red, white, and blue interiors! We’ve got some fabulous ones in this year’s lineup! 🙂 Enjoy, be inspired, and enjoy your 4th!

Designer Elish Phares Moon recently wrapped up a design project in Texas after a long distance working relationship with her clients, whom she has never before met face to face! This project is so interesting because it shows us what fabulous designers, understanding clients, great communication, and a great delivery team can accomplish! We asked Elish to share a little more about the project and how it worked because we are just so darn impressed with how it all turned out!
“In December of 2016, I had an inquiry about design services and potential work with some clients in Spring Valley, Texas. This young couple had just purchased their dream home and had budgeted for working with a designer to nail down the look they wanted in their main rooms. Focusing on the dining room, living room, and master bedroom, we discussed design direction in depth and committed to a tight timeline. Because the couple wanted to be able to move in to completely furnished rooms by their closing date, I brainstormed the initial design scheme with Lisa Palmer, SummerHouse’s owner and principal designer, to speed up the process. (I got my start at SummerHouse as her assistant before moving on to a full time designer.) She and I work well together and were able to streamline the couple’s vision into a beautiful and functional design for their young family quickly.”
The key to working with a client long-distance is transparency and communication. We put together a detailed presentation packet complete with samples and swatches that were clearly labeled. Two of my strengths are organization and communication, so I actually really enjoy working on out-of-
state projects! Our clients asked detailed questions and gave us great feedback. After a few minor changes we got everything on order and began our countdown until the install! Thanks to understanding clients dedicated to quality design, trusted vendors, an experienced delivery team, and a little patience, this project evolved into a finished design that I take pride in and that my clients enjoy!”
Beautiful job, Elish! Such a great result. We love seeing a good, challenging design project come to completion! 🙂
As you might have noticed from social media and from our web store, we have a new local potter represented at SummerHouse and we are EXCITED!
Our friend April Shelby Crowell, the mastermind behind A. Shelby Pottery, was kind enough to take the time to answer a few questions for us so we could all get to know her better! Lisa and Marty fell in love with her pottery at our Lee Loves Local event (along with Traditional Home Magazine, in which she was just featured!) and it’s been true love ever since. Let’s get on with our chat with April!
Tell us a little about yourself, please ma’am!
I grew up in Florence, MS with my parents and older brother. I’m really fond of that small town childhood! I’ve always had a passion for the arts and my parents have always been super supportive of that. Now I live in Flowood with my husband, Jon Richard. He is the best encourager, and his let’s-make-it-happen attitude is one of my biggest inspirations. And we’re pretty obsessed with our dog, Potter. Yes, we named him after my profession!
How long have you been creating pottery?
I took my first pottery class in the first semester of my freshman year of college (2008), and seriously I was in love with it before class even started! I continued to take pottery classes all throughout college, graduated from Miss. State University in 2013 with a BFA, emphasis in ceramics, and have been making pottery on my own ever since!
What inspires your style? It’s so fun and different!
That’s a tough one because I’m inspired by so much. Specifically, this Gold Collection came to life from my love for handmade, functional objects mixed with the simple, chic style I admire in interior design and home decor. I feel like in our area when people think “pottery” they think “country” or “rustic.” While I do admire and appreciate that look, it just isn’t my personal style. So I started to create these minimalist forms using a monotone color scheme. Even though I am my own worst critic, I really liked the pottery I was making so I just rolled with it!
What is your favorite thing about creating pottery?
Again, so many inspirations and so many reasons why. I just love the whole process of working with my hands to make stuff. Anything, really! I just stick with clay most of the time! It’s crafty and challenging. Pottery is a long process so when products are finally complete it’s really quite satisfying!
What else do we need to know about you and your pottery?!
Recently someone told me, “I see your pottery when I walk into my living room and it just makes me so happy.” I don’t say that to sound boastful, I say it because that’s one of the many reasons I love doing what I do. If my pottery makes someone happy then I’m happy too. When you purchase a piece of A. Shelby Pottery you’re not just picking up any ordinary object off the shelf, you’re getting a piece of art that is very special to me because a lot of time and craftsmanship goes into each piece. I hope you enjoy my pottery just as much as I enjoy making it for you!
Thank you so much, April! Your work is inspiring and we are honored to carry it 🙂
Be sure to stop by either SummerHouse location to shop April’s work, or you can check some of it out on our web store!
We hope you’re having a great week!

After a weekend filled with gathering around dining tables and celebrating our mothers, we were inspired to share some of our favorite spaces to gather and eat with family and friends. Especially here in the South, food brings us together. All of our social functions revolve around it. So be sure that your own dining room or gathering space is ready for memory-making next time an opportunity for a family gathering presents itself!
How beautiful are all of these rooms?! See more photos like this in our Dining gallery on our design site. So much inspiration over there!
Thank you for stopping by today! We hope you had a happy happy Mother’s Day celebrating or being celebrated 🙂 Be sure to check back by soon!

Have a great day!
We are exactly a month away from from the Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles Southeastern Designer Showhouse in which Lisa is participating!
The most recent issue of Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles officially announced the showhouse and all of the designers, gave some information about the beneficiary (which is the beautiful Atlanta History Center) and gave a floor plan of the home being used. All of this just got us extra excited about the big event!
Lisa’s room assignment is the playroom and we are dying over the selections she’s made for this space! Although we can’t share too much before the unveiling of the completed home, we know all of you will be crazy in love with every single detail!
In the meantime, go grab a copy of the current issue of Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles and get familiar with all of the details! We hope all of you are as excited about this as we are!!
Let’s all take a moment to celebrate the marble trend that has us so entranced right now. We love that classic marble is now being celebrated with more than just horizontal surfaces. Although we adore a great marble countertop, tabletop, or floor, we’re loving seeing these mesmerizing swirls on walls and upholstery as well!
Here are a few of our favorite picks for marbly wallpapers, fabrics, and works of art.
How beautiful are these fabrics from Rebecca Atwood, Schumacher, Groundworks, and Kravet? We have access to so many beautiful fabrics and wall coverings like these!
Love the statement that this one pillow makes!
Here are some fabulous wallpapers + several STUNNING installations that we swoon over! (#heartsforeyes)
We adore these lovelies by one of our favorite artists, Cheslea Fly, which are available in our Ridgeland store!
Do you love all of this as much as we do?! If you see something you love, give us a call and let one of our designers get you fixed up! 🙂
Thank you so much for dropping by today. We hope you are having a wonderful week!
We are thrilled to announce that our very own Lisa Palmer is one of the designers participating in the 2017 Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles Southeastern Designer Showhouse!
The historic home being used this year is absolutely exquisite! Lisa has been working hard to design her room, the playroom, with the style and history of the home in mind, while also adding that beautiful SummerHouse style that we all know and love! 🙂
The house will be open April 20 until May 14 on Thursdays through Saturdays from 10am to 4pm and on Sundays from 1 to 4 pm. It will be closed Mondays through Wednesdays. Purchase your tickets here and go ahead and plan a weekend trip to Atlanta to check out this beautiful home!
Stay tuned as we give peeks of Lisa’s design process over the coming weeks! We can’t wait to show you what she’s been working on!
Around SummerHouse, we absolutely love a good tray! When something is as functional and as beautiful as a well appointed tray, we find ourselves a little bit obsessed! Our showroom in Ridgeland is currently brimming with lovely trays, so we wanted to share a peek!
TRAY CHIC, right?! 😉
Come see us in Ridgeland OR in Oxford for a beautiful array of trays in all sizes, materials, and price points! We can’t wait to see you!
As we continue to relive the fun of our Lee Loves Local event on 2/11, we keep referring to it as “the perfect day.” For us, we could not have asked for anything more! The weather was amazing, our guests had a great time, and every single person/business involved fit the whole idea of the event so perfectly. We were so pleased!
Local photographer (and friend!) Lauren Liddell captured some lovely photos of the day so we wanted to share our favorites! Enjoy!
Our panelists Lisa Palmer, Shaun Smith, and Julia Reed along with Traditional Home’s Krissa Rossbund, did an amazing job of keeping our crowd entertained while sharing great ideas on entertaining!
Our local vendor market was a total success. Everyone loved the taste of Mississippi under our big white tent! And of course the food and drinks served from the Karovan Bar were hits as well!
Big thanks to everyone who came out and supported local. We love our Jackson area community so much!
Have a great day and thanks for stopping by! (And if you saw a vendor you were interested in, check out this page for links to all of their sites!) XO!
